At Site One, we are a small, family-owned business and parents to two primary school-aged children. When our first child was born, we took a short first aid course for babies and toddlers. During the session, we heard a story that still haunts us to this day.
At a BBQ with multiple adults and children present, a small child slipped away unnoticed and tragically drowned within meters of everyone. Everyone assumed that someone else was watching, illustrating how easily distractions can occur in social settings.
We understand how such accidents can happen and how important it is to stay vigilant. While we take every precaution to ensure pool safety during our inspections, unforeseen situations can still arise, such as gates being propped open or objects being moved closer to the fence, making it easier for children to climb over.
To enhance safety, we emphasize the importance of always having at least one designated adult to watch the pool or water area. If that person needs to step away, the responsibility should be clearly passed to another adult.
To assist in these situations, we have developed a handy badge that fits into a waterproof lanyard or holder, designed specifically for parties or busy settings. We hope this simple solution provides extra reassurance and enhances safety around the water.
